Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has directed universities to urgently correct errors on student portals after a fee data hitch at the University of Nairobi (UoN) triggered widespread confusion.
The problem began on August 15, 2025, when UoN prepared student fee data for upload. However, once the information was transferred to student portals, many learners encountered incorrect fee figures, with some students finding charges of up to Ksh50, 000 that did not match their allocations. The timing, which coincided with the weekend and preparations for reopening, worsened the situation and left many students stranded.
To address the crisis, CS Ogamba deployed technical support teams to UoN and other institutions experiencing similar difficulties. The teams are tasked with resolving login challenges, correcting data inconsistencies and ensuring that accurate information is uploaded before the semester begins.

The ministry has also instructed universities to upload the corrected details immediately as most institutions are expected to reopen between now and October. Students who identify errors in their portals will be allowed to file appeals to ensure no deserving candidate is denied support under the government’s student-centered funding model.
CS Ogamba assured parents and students that the government remains committed to streamlining the new system and fixing any discrepancies swiftly to safeguard access to university education.
