The Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, has applauded the remarkable work being done by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.
Speaking during the 6th graduation ceremony at Meru National Polytechnic, where 3,370 graduates were awarded Diploma and certificates in various disciplines, CS Ogamba highlighted the institution’s growing capacity to produce competent graduates equipped for the job market.
He commended the innovative projects developed at Meru National Polytechnic, such as the processing of banana flour under a registered trademark, the creation of automatic smart bins for garbage collection, and the solar dryer for agribusiness.
These innovations, he noted, demonstrate the power of applied skills in addressing real-life challenges.
“These innovations align perfectly with the ministry’s mission of fostering a TVET system that provides practical solutions to Kenya’s development priorities,” said CS Ogamba.
CS Ogamba also praised the Polytechnic for its outstanding performance at various TVET fairs, where the institution has consistently showcased remarkable innovations and emerged as one of the top performers nationally.
He lauded the leadership of Meru National Polytechnic for embracing Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), which shifts the focus from what learners know to what they can do.
“As a ministry, we are committed to transforming TVETs into engines that drive Kenya’s industrialization and sustainable development,” said CS Ogamba.

The CS further commended TVET institutions for integrating technology into their programs, adding that the ministry is embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI), virtual reality, and digital learning to enhance the learning process. He also noted the ministry’s efforts to mainstream green TVETs by promoting renewable energy in all institutions.
“We are investing in modern infrastructure, digital equipment, and training facilities across all national polytechnics,” he stated.
