The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction of Nyamira University College at Kiabonyoru grounds in Nyamira County, ahead of President William Ruto’s scheduled visit on Monday.
During an inspection tour of the site, the CS commended contractors and stakeholders for maintaining steady progress and upholding quality standards throughout the project’s implementation.
He said the government remains firmly committed to ensuring the institution is completed within the set timelines.
“I commend the contractors and all stakeholders for the steady progress and the quality of work. I am satisfied with the strides made so far,” said Ogamba.

He reaffirmed that plans are on course for the admission of the first cohort of students in September 2026, noting that the university college will significantly expand access to higher education opportunities in the region.
The CS dismissed critics and what he termed as political demagogues who would prefer to see the project stall for their own political expediency, insisting that the government will not be distracted from delivering on its promises.
Later, Ogamba toured Nyamira Primary School, where he inspected the ongoing construction of a multi-storey tuition block to ease congestion and improve the learning environment for pupils.

He emphasised the importance of modern infrastructure in enhancing education outcomes at all levels.
The CS also visited Kisii National Polytechnic to review the progress of a nine-floor student hostel designed to accommodate 840 students.
The facility is expected to address accommodation challenges and support the institution’s growing student population.

Ogamba was accompanied by West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka.
The inspection forms part of routine government oversight to ensure projects are on track and all preparations are in order ahead of the head of state’s visit.
