Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has launched the construction of the Bokoli Sports Academy at Friends School Bokoli in Webuye West Constituency, a Sh50 million project aimed at nurturing sports talent among students and empowering youth through athletics.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature eight running tracks, a football pitch, basketball and netball courts, modern changing rooms, a social hall, and a water storage system.
It is part of a national government initiative to establish 33 sports academies nationwide, tapping into grassroots talent and developing future champions from schools and communities.

During the launch, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka applauded the project but expressed concern over implementation delays.
“Our students have the talent, but a lack of proper infrastructure has held them back. This academy is a game-changer, and we urge swift completion,” Lusaka said.
Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama and other dignitaries present echoed the need for faster delivery, highlighting the role of school-based academies in identifying and nurturing young talent early.
Once complete, the Bokoli Sports Academy is expected to serve not only Friends School Bokoli but other learning institutions in the region, positioning Bungoma as a key hub for sports excellence in the country.
