Cries of concern as TSC begins posting of 2,014 newly recruited teachers

TSC headquarters

Education News has received spontaneous complaints of corruption from the teacher applications in the about to be concluded recruitment of 2,014 teachers to replace those who exited payroll through natural attrition. The concerned teachers pointed fingers at disgruntled Subcounty panellists, who they claimed overlooked recruitment guidelines.

“In our subcounty,8 slots were declared, but to our utter shock, only the first six were invited for a further verification exercise. This means two vacancies have been preserved for the panellists’ sacred cows, “lamented Jeni, an applicant from North Rift. The same complaint is replicated in Western, Central, Coastal and Eastern regions.

It was further established that most Tsc subcounty bosses kept the merit tight to their chest and incident that denied both teacher unions and the applicants from scrutiny.” Already we have launched complains over blatant refusal by our TSC office to make the merit available for us”, said Bernard, one of the applicant from Eastern region.

In some subcounties in Rift Valley and Western, it is reported that the authentication process of those who are thought to have succeeded was done at night of Friday.

This has raised doubts over the transparency of the entire process.”Why was final verification done at night? We are petitioning the whole process and demand to know what prompted TSC officers to schedule the process for night hours,” quipped an angry teacher from the Rift Valley region.

Cases of recruitment guidelines being flouted have remained elusive for quite some time. It is alleged that non-locals were given undue advantage in some counties. This is said to have left prospective locals lamenting. Teachers blatantly blamed teacher unions for what they described as being overly reluctant to monitor the entire process.

Incidents of conflict of interest by Directors working in their home counties were also reported.”When an old man comes and openly tells the subcounty to consider his daughter owing to a longtime friendship with his father, what do you expect? lamented Angeline, an unsuccessful applicant.

All eyes are trained on the acting TSC CEO on what urgent action she would take in a bid to redeem the replacement process. Replacement of teachers should not degenerate to what was witnessed in the January promotional exercise that tainted the integrity of the commission.
