Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch officials have thanked the government for treating teachers as front line workers in the Covid-19 vaccination rollout.
Addressing mourners at Kiru village in Kisii during the burial of a Mathematics teacher at Uriri High School Simon Makambi, KUPPET chairman Herlon Otunga said the disease has caused global havoc.
He appealed for consolidated effort to fight the pandemic and asked the ministries of health and education to prioritize vaccination of school children.
He argued that learners mingle than any other groups and were therefore likely to face more dangers from the disease.
Otunga asked adults to continue wearing face masks and to observe other COVID-19 protocols for the disease has to be fought effectively.
The chairman said, teaching is a noble profession that should be done with love, tolerance and humility by its bearers.
He praised the late Makambi who met his untimely death through road accident as a dedicated teacher.
