The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) national elections scheduled for April 18, 2026 will proceed as planned after the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru declined to stop the exercise.
In a ruling delivered by James Rika, the court stated that it was not necessary to bar KUPPET from convening the national meeting on the scheduled date. This means the national union elections and related activities will continue as planned.
However, the court granted interim orders staying any further actions arising from the KUPPET Nakuru branch elections.

As a result, delegates elected from the Nakuru branch will not participate in the upcoming national elections until the matter before the court is heard and determined.

The case was filed by Daniel Rono, who moved to court seeking orders to halt processes linked to the Nakuru branch elections.
The court further directed that the application be served to all respondents and scheduled for hearing through the normal court process, where the dispute surrounding the Nakuru branch elections will be fully determined.
For now, teachers across the country should note that the KUPPET national elections remain on course, although representation from Nakuru branch delegates will remain suspended pending the court’s final decision.
