Kisumu county secretary Mr. John Auma has revealed that governor Anyang Nyong’o’s administration is keen on tapping sports talents both at tertiary and secondary school level in order to nurture upcoming athletes.

Auma said that the country’s western region Kenya had abundant talent in athletics especially in track and field events which he noted has been lying untapped for many years.

The secretary who was speaking at Moi stadium in Kisumu at the end of the StanChart Marathon said that it was a misconception that people from Nyanza and Western regions cannot effectively take parts in athletics.

He impressed upon young people who have finished University education to venture into sports.

“Sports today is the biggest industry in the world where many people earn a living,” he said.

Auma said this giving the example of the Africa 100 meters Champion, Ferdinand Omanyala.

Earlier governor Nyong’o presided over a tree planting session before the start of the event.
