County launches scholarship program

By Malachi Motano

Students from needy and vulnerable backgrounds who sat for last year’s KCPE examination and scored 350 marks in Bungoma County will benefit from scholarships.

They will now have an opportunity of being absorbed in the Governor’s scholarship programme to further their education.

Bungoma County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Dr. Betty Mayeku says application for the scholarship program is now open for the next two weeks.

Eligible students must be residents of the county, should have sat and scored over 350 marks in the 2020 KCPE and must also be from poor families.

She added that so far 1500 students have benefited from the scholarship in the county.

Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has directed that only 1000 students will benefit from the program this year.

Dr. Mayeku disclosed that the application forms will be available at the wards administrator’s offices and asked parents to pick them.

She said the forms are free of charge and no one should solicit money from parents and students.

Successful applicants will automatically get the money each year, that is why the program is competitive and also an incentive for good performance.
