County launches online bursary application platform

Embu students have something to smile about after the County government launched the Online Bursary and Scholarships Management System to manage disbursement of bursaries.

The online bursary application portal will see students and parents use shorter time to apply for bursaries at their comfort of their homes.

“This system is very easy to use. Students can apply wherever they are and don’t need to come to queue. That is now a thing of the past,” said Governor Cecily Mbarire during the launch of the system at Embu’s Talent Academy in Embu town.

Mbarire said that through the system, the county will be able to track the applications and disbursement of the funds.

She appointed ward committee members to monitor the system and urges them to always be keen during the selection process to ensure bursaries are awarded to deserving students only.

She noted that for Financial Year 2023/24 the county will disburse Ksh100 million to 20 wards.

Mbarire noted that in the coming cycles, the county will strive to enhance the kitty to ensure more students undertake their studies with ease.

“In this first phase, we will call upon applications from secondary school students and those in Vocational Training Colleges (VTCs),” she noted.

The governor further urged the appointed members to coordinate the issuance of bursaries and work with ward representatives in harmony.

The committee chairperson Patrick Kinyua Njagi said that the  committee will ensure only deserving students benefit from the bursaries.
