The County Government of Uasin Gishu has signed an agreement with Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) to train technical lecturers.
Following the pact, the County has sent 100 students to be enrolled to the college, where upon completion of their studies, will become teachers in technical and vocational institutions
Speaking recently Governor Jackson Mandago reiterated the advantage of students who have cleared their form four joining technical institutions to acquire technical skills to improve their livelihoods.
“As county government, we discovered that we had a shortage of technical teachers that is why we decided to sponsor 100 students to pursue the same,” said governor Mandago after signing the MOU recently.
Among those joining the college are beneficiaries of the county’s annual sponsorship at the Rift Valley Technical Training College (RVTTI).
600 students are sponsored under this scholarship annually.
Governor Mandago also appealed for Ministry of Education to allow establishment of KTTC campuses. The County foots Sh60, 000 as tuition and Sh7, 800 as boarding fee for each of the students. However, parents will have to pay for food expenses.
Chief Principal at the KTTC Jamleck Maina hailed the county government for investing resources to giving students technical teacher training education.
“We assessed and interviewed the 100 students and found them qualified to pursue Diploma in Technical Teachers,” noted Maina.
UasinGishu now becomes the first county to sponsor students to the only technical teacher training institution in the county.
