Kakamega County Government has donated a total of Kshs. 336,000 to Sulungai Boys High School in Malava constituency to help 140 students who were affected when their dormitory was razed down by fire on October 15, 2022.

Speaking when he visited the school to give the donation, Kakamega Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, who represented the Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa, said the County Government had taken the initiative following cries from parents whose children were affected when the incident occurred.

The Deputy Governor said such incidents will be managed better once a disaster management facility that is to be set up at Mukhonje area is completed.

“As the County government we feel very sorry for the school and students that lost virtually everything they had in the fire.  We heard the cry of the parents and came in to offer our support to school,” said Hon. Savula.

He added: “We are hoping that once the disaster management facility being put up at Mukhonje market if complete, we shall have such incidents responded to and managed appropriately.”

“We are very saddened with what happened on that day and we want to thank the County government for responding at the cry of our parents and students,” said Nakwekwe

He revealed that the burnt dormitory will cost the school Kshs. 9.5 Million to be re-constructed, appealing for more help from stakeholders, well-wishers and friends to come in aid.
