County Education Board Chairman laments recurring arson in Kisii

Kisii County Education Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi.

The Chairman of the Kisii County Education Board Prof. Henry Onderi has decried the recent spate of arson incidents plaguing the county.

The Chairman’s alarm was prompted after two young children lost their lives when their house was engulfed in flames on a fateful Tuesday night in Nchoro Village, South Mugirango Constituency.

Reportedly, the twin boys, only four years old, were left in the care of their eight-year-old brother by their mother, who had gone to pick vegetables.

Tragically, upon her return, she discovered that the fire, initially lit for cooking, had spread to the dry grass surrounding the house, resulting in the loss of her sons.

The lifeless bodies of the young victims were transported to Tabaka Mission Hospital Mortuary, where they would be preserved pending funeral arrangements.

Meanwhile, their surviving sibling, a pupil at Nchoro Primary School, remained under hospital care for treatment.

This heart-wrenching incident was swiftly followed by a devastating fire at Riokindo School, which reduced three dormitories to ashes.

Prof. Onderi, deeply dismayed by these occurrences, urged the authorities, particularly the police, to leave no stone unturned in their investigation and efforts to address these fire outbreaks.

He called upon various community stakeholders, including churches, Nyumba Kumi representatives, community policing groups, and other community workers, to collaborate and ensuring the safety of students and residents within Kisii County.
