County commissioner urges police to maintain focus on exams only

As Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations kicked off nationwide, Makueni County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has called upon police officers manning the examinations to focus on providing security and not engage on other duties.

Speaking at the commissioners building during opening of the examination containers yesterday, he reminded the officers that their duty remains guarding of the exams and that they should not just deliver the papers then disappear looking for illicit brew or any other unnecessary activities that might interfere with their work.

County Police Commandant Joseph Ole Naipeyan called for centre managers to coordinate well with their security counterparts to avoid the irregularities.

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) officer Paul Korir cautioned that only those supervising exams and KNEC officials are allowed at the exam rooms with their tags on for easy identification.

Makueni County TSC Director Alex Cheruiyot noted that about 2,300 teachers are administering and managing both KCPE and KCSE exams with 20 routes that are manned by security officers. The punctuality in delivery and returning of exams to the containers has also been assured.

In Makueni County, 35,596 candidates, 17,565 being boys and 17,940 girls sat for KCPE in 910 centres.

In KCSE, there will be 27,024 candidates whereby, 13,494 are boys and 13,530 are girls in 404 centres.
