County commissioner issues stern warning to child defilers

By Lydia Ngoolo

Makueni county commissioner Beverly Opwora has called upon police in the area not to relent in efforts towards curbing cases of defilement.

She noted that 122 girls had been defiled in the county over the last 10 months.

Stating that she was committed to eliminate the vice, Opwora warned men preying on young girls that they shall be arrested to face the law to serve as an example to other perpetrators.

“Such acts leads to early marriages, school dropouts, stigma and worst of all ruin girls’ future. This will not be condoned at all as we will use law to protect our children and prosecute the rapists,” she said.

Opwora further warned that caregivers, parents and teachers who fail to protect children will also face it rough.

She regretted that there were far more cases which had not been reported thus she urged residents to speak out and expose the culprits.

The commissioner called upon Chiefs and Nyumba Kumi elders to strictly monitor their jurisdictions and work together to flush out rape and its perpetrators.
