Isiolo County Government officers at Isiolo Girls High School.

The county government of Isiolo dispatched a team to conduct an urgent assessment at Isiolo Girls High School following the devastating fire that destroyed one of the girls’ dormitories last weekend.

The county team, led by County Secretary Dade Boru, visited the school today to commence the assessment.

The evaluation aims to facilitate the smooth resumption of school operations, as students had been sent home in the aftermath of the fire.

Speaking during the visit, Boru conveyed the governor’s condolences to the school community, promising swift action.

He said that the county government is committed to supporting education, despite the non-devolution of secondary education.

“The county government is willing to provide relief services to the school, especially to the affected students, most of whom lost all their belongings in the weekend inferno,” he said.

The school’s head of boarding Doreen Mboroki, confirmed that 159 students were directly affected, with most of their possessions completely destroyed in the blaze.

She regretted that nothing was salvaged during the incident but expressed gratitude that no casualties were reported among the school’s 467 students.

Hassan Abdulahi, Chief Officer in charge of Special Programs, assured that his department shall step in to offer assistance once the assessment was completed.
