The Co-operative University of Kenya has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic road accident on the morning of Saturday, March 14, 2026, near Mbagathi River on Ushirika Road in Karen that claimed the lives of its two alumni and left four injured.
In a statement released on Monday, March 16, the university confirmed the passing of two esteemed alumni, Elvis Echesa and Adonai Brian Munialo, both of whom served with distinction as Finance Secretaries of the Student Governing Council during the 2020/2021 and 2024/2025 academic years.
“Their contributions to the university will be long remembered. The university extends heartfelt condolences to their families and friends during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The University also confirmed that the four current students involved in the accident sustained minor injuries but are now out of danger.
The accident involved six members of the university community two alumni and four current students.

The students were traveling in a private car when the crash occurred near the affordable housing project close to the university
The four students according to the statement received medical treatment at Ongata Rongai Sub-County Hospital in Kajiado County and Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi County before being discharged and are currently recovering.
The university community has been urged to keep the families of Elvis and Brian in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging period as the Police carry out investigations into the accident.
