Confusion as Opwora returns as TVET Director

Dr. Meshack Chuma Opwora has been re-appointed as the Director of Vocational and Technical Trainingin the Ministry of Education.

Opwora’s appointment has caused more confusion in the TVET sector given that barely a Month ago his predecessor, John Tuwei had been installed as the new director following the redeployment of Tom Mulati to the field after having acted on the position for several years.

Earlier on, Opwora had occupied the position for two years, serving between 2017-2019 before his deployment as Director of Post-Training and Skills Development, domiciled in the same Ministry.

The fate of Tuwei was not clear but sources within the Ministry indicate that he could have returned to his old perch as Deputy Director in charge of Projects in the TVET sector.

Mulati has proceeded to Ramogi Institute of Technology (RIAT) in Kisumu County as Principal to take over from Marren Omondi who is said to have retired early this year.

Before his appointment as Acting Director for TVET, Mulati had been the Principal of Sigalagala National Polytechnic in Kakamega County.

Opwora, a holder of PhD in TVET from the University of Newcastle in Australia, is a seasoned technocrat who has served the sector for over 26 solid years.

Principals serving in various TVET institutions lauded his return terming him a reformist who could transform the sector.
