The community around Kisii County was asked to get relevant information pertaining diseases like Tuberculosis as residents celebrated the International Tuberculosis Day at Kenyenya stadium in Kenyenya Sub-county.

During the event, the public was asked to be exposed to the right information for them to beat such diseases.

“Information is the power that should be treasured in all ways,” said one of the medical officers who graced the event.

Mrs. Winnie Kerubo, the medical officer, asked communities to equip themselves with any information on the cause effects and remedies of the disease.

She termed tuberculosis an enemy number one that should be fought and treated trough good access to information on how to free people from it.

“The disease is common to all ages of people and can only be treated through getting early information about it and start to fight it before advancing into our people,” she said.

She appealed to the Ministry of Education to seriously partner with the Ministry of Health to incorporate students in the campaigns against the disease in the country.

“We ask the government to design a method that will enable us to infuse students in our public sensitization programmes because they are quick to grasp new ideas,” she adedd.

The health worker decried the small number of people who turned up to suck celebrations and attributed it to ignorance which she admitted, has no defense.

She promised that her office will try to reach communities to sound alert to them against the disease.

She asked the people who are mindful of others to join hands with her office for better community services.
