An Assistant County Commissioner has been arrested after losing the key to the National Examinations storage container which she was in charge of.
Lukenya Assistant County Commissioner Elizabeth Karitu was arrested in Nairobi and locked at Parklands Police station when she reported the loss of the key.
Ms Karitu was immediately interdicted and security of the exam container beefed up as the authorities notified the Kenya National Examinations Council to replace the padlock in order to forestall a possible theft of examination material.
Machakos County Commissioner Esther Maina confirmed that Ms Karitu has been replaced. “Efforts have been made by KNEC to immediately replace the padlocks to replace Karitu. So all is under control and there is no cause for alarm,” said Maina.
This stern action against Karitu follows a statement by Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha that cases of keys to examination storage facilities getting lost will not be entertained.
It is alleged keys to the exam container got lost when thieves broke the window of Ms Karitu’s parked car. The thugs stole her purse which contained the key, which she had left in the car as she visited a hospital in Nairobi.
