President Ruto has said that coding will be part of the school curriculum starting next year after they held a lengthy discussion with global technology leaders over the matter.

Through teaching coding lessons, it will help learners to get tech skills which will help them prepare for the tech-savvy  world.

Speaking during the Jamhuri Tech and Innovation Summit at KICC, he said that learners will also be empowered and given tools to express themselves.

“We need to know how to grow our technology from primary school. You have heard about coding, that is now going to be part of our curriculum to ensure technology becomes part of our journey from primary school all the way to university,” he said.

He noted that all careers currently require technical skills be it software development, customer management, graphic design or marketing.

“We are developing relevant policies that will nurture and stimulate innovation in Kenya, this is in appreciation that innovation has the power to accelerate productivity, generate gainful employment and create wealth for millions of ordinary people,” he concluded.
