Residents and leaders in Kilifi county have called for the retention of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) citing tangible and equitable development across the country.
Speaking in Rabai sub-county, Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu said that the two funds had revolutionized development in marginalized communities.
She said that NG-CDF had upgraded infrastructure in schools, providing bursaries, constructing Police stations and Chiefs’ offices while women, youth and people living with disabilities had benefitted from NGAAF grants which had helped them start economic activities to boost their livelihoods.
“There are people calling for the scrapping of NGCDF, where will we get our development from? This is like punishing citizens,” she said.
Area MP Kenga Mupe said that it was through the NGCDF that he had managed to develop the area to match standards of urban and semi urban areas.
His sentiments were echoed by Rogers Mwayaye, the board chairman of Pangani Comprehensive School who said that nearly all buildings in the school had been renovated by the fund while new ones had been constructed to accommodate more learners.
Malindi Sub County Deputy County Commissioner David Lusava said that NGCDF was a game changer in bolstering security in the area with the construction of a new Chief’s office and a Police station.
