The clergy in Nyandarua County has urged parents to invest in the education of their children to make them important people in the society in future.

Led by Anglican Church of Kenya’s Diocese of Nyahururu  Education Secretary Rev Tabitha Obure, they said that time has come to raise education standards in the county, which can only happen when the key stakeholders take  their duties seriously.

“Parents are the most influential in the performance of any institution. We encourage all to invest heavily in the education of their children for them to get good fruits,” said Rev Obure.

She said that in recent years, Nyandarua County has not been producing good results both in primary and secondary schools, but congratulated those that have improved in national examinations, urging those that are performing poorly to pull up their socks.

She told parents to be aware that when their children are not performing, they are part and parcel of the problem.

She encouraged parents to pay fees and provide the necessary requirements like learning materials for their children.

“If as a parent you fail to pay school fees for your child, you probably have also failed to provide learning materials. How do you expect the child to compete with others whose parents pay school fees and provide them with the necessary learning materials?” she wondered.

She also reminded them to closely monitor the academic progress of their children in order to solve the minor challenges that may hinder their performance, even as they encourage the god performers to continue improving.

She was speaking at Nandarasi Secondary school during a thanksgiving ceremony attended by education officers, county officials and principals from various schools.

They said that they are ready as stakeholders to assist where necessary to pull up the county to shine among the 47 counties.

She also urged the diversity of professionals to join hands in the process of raising the standards of education in the county.
