The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has today acknowledged errors in the Advocate Training Programme (ATP) examination results.

CLE issued the admission amid lawyers staging protests outside the council’s office headquarters, citing irregularities in exam results.

On July 10, 2024 lawyers sitting for the exams expressed concerns that the exam results displayed on the CLE portal were identical to those published in 2023.

“The Council of Legal Education regrets the display mishap of the Advocate Training Programme (ATP) examination results released on July 9, 2024,” a statement from CLE read in part. “Following the release of the results, candidates viewed their November 2023 ATP results instead of the April 2024 results.”

CLE assured lawyers that the error was promptly rectified and measures were implemented to prevent such mishaps from happening again in the future.

The examination authority apologized to the lawyers who had taken the exams for the distress caused by receiving incorrect results.

“The results as released are credible and comparable to the performance in previous years,” CLE spoke of the corrected results.

In the future, CLE announced that a PDF containing the results of all candidates would no longer be released to the public.

To comply with the Data Protection Act, law students will access their ATP results via their personal portals.

CLE noted that a PDF document would be accessible at CLE for candidates to review their scores per unit and per attempted question.

CLE responded to the concerns raised by law students by announcing that it had implemented effective measures to improve the administration of the ATP examination.

This involves the procedures for establishing, assessing, and moderating, serving as the ultimate accountability process.
