Civil Servants will have to tighten their belts longer as the government has shown no intentions of reviewing their salaries anytime soon despite the harsh economic times.
Addressing the press at the sidelines of the sixth women in HR convention organized by the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), PSC Vice-Chairperson Mary Kimonye, noted that, the financial crisis facing the country has led to stagnated salaries.
She also admitted that the number of women in the public service is lower (38 percent) compared to that of men (62 percent) and the government is addressing the cases.

This came as the commission identified economic challenges as one of the major causes of the rise in cases of mental health among government workers.
She also revealed the government’s efforts on solving the problem by early detection with mental champions appointed in every government department.
According to PSC Vice-Chairperson Kimonye, review of salaries is subject to the revenue that the country collects adding that, due to the global financial crunch, Kenyans should brace for harsh times.
On her part, IHRM Executive Director Quresha Abddullahi noted that despite the high number of women as HR practitioners, the number of women in senior positions remain low.
She said the convention would take advantage of available policies to make workplaces better and bring more women into leadership roles.
IHRM vice-chair Beatrice Bii also expressed commitment to promoting diversity and women’s leadership within the HR profession.
The public service commission lastly reviewed the civil servants salary on September 2024, when the government announced the increase in salaries to all civil servants after the agreement to implement second phase of Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) where the lowest cadre of civil servants gets a salary increase of Ksh 1000 while higher job group receives a pay rise of Ksh 3000.
