Good News Academy, a church sponsored school in Mombasa County has devised WhatsApp content that is sent to students at home.

The WhatsApp group membership comprises parents, caretakers and neighbours whose contacts are provided by learners.

According to the school’s sponsor Hope of Kenya Foundation Vice President Pastor Allan Owano, the programme keeps children academically busy since learners can receive their assignments and send back the answers through WhatsApp.

Children who are away from school because of the Covid-19 pandemic also receive food donations from the church.

A family of five receives a package of eight kilograms of maize, beans and rice respectively four kilograms of sugar, 3 litres of cooking oil and bars of soap after two weeks.

The gesture is an innovative way of keeping learners busy at home and helping the government in fighting coronavirus pandemic.

Pastor Owano added that  the foundation makes  a similar  offer  for about 400 pupils in New Life Academy, a sister school in Bomani Kilifi County.
