The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has delivered Covid-19 emergency supply to Kisumu County worth Sh8 million.

Through Professor Tom Ojienda Foundation that linked the Church with the county, the religious organization donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs,) Autoclaves, 25 Chlorine resistant beds, Cooler Boxes, Masks and Gumboots among other Covid-19 support equipment.

Kisumu First Lady Mama Dorothy Nyong’o while receiving the donations at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital on behalf of the county government thanked the Church for the kind gesture.

“I thank the Church for their kind support for this will go a long way in ensuring that our medical personnel are well protected during their works with Covid-19 patients,” she said.

She thanked Professor Ojienda for his linkage with the donor saying the supply will aid in supplementing county government efforts aimed at service delivery.

Mrs. Nyong’o said the Kisumu County government has been giving health a major priority since 2017.

“It is the intention of the County Government to accord people who cannot afford basic health care more such opportunities,” she said.

While addressing the press, Ojienda said that the Church has indicated continued support for the County Government in both health and education sectors.

Professor Ojienda said that he had been in talks with the church together with the first lady in order to see how the missionaries can assist the people of Kisumu County.

Ojienda who is eyeing the Kisumu County senate position said he initially thought of taking the donations to Nyakach Sub-county where he hails from but later settled on the referral hospital following lengthy consultations with Mrs. Nyong’o.

He said that the donations were just the beginning of more items to come through the professor Tom Ojienda Foundation which he runs.

Also present were Chief Officer for Health Dr. Gregory Ganda and the Director of Health and Sanitation Dr. Fredrick Oluoch and other health personnel.

Dr. Ganda appreciated the church for cushioning the County budget through the donations.

He said the items which included syringes, gloves, masks, patient monitors and a host of others will go a long way in boosting services at health institutions in the county.
