Chulaimbo High School in Kisumu County was yesterday, June 18, indefinitely closed following a series of student unrests and dorm fires.
The latest incident occurred earlier this week when a fire broke out at night and destroyed a dormitory, even though the cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities are investigating the matter.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as students managed to escape in time.
The fire came just days after students protested over poor quality of food. Learners accused the school of serving meals that were unhealthy and unfit for consumption.

In a show of frustration, they poured the food on the ground in protest, demanding better treatment and improved standards.
Tensions have been high in the school since the food protest, with reports indicating growing dissatisfaction among students over hygiene and general welfare. The school administration, in consultation with education officials, decided to close the institution temporarily to restore order and allow investigations to take place.
Parents have been asked to pick up their children as learning remains suspended until further notice as Education officials have promised to address the students’ grievances before the school can reopen.
