Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the government is currently engaged in discussions with China regarding potential assistance in upgrading 70 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

In his address at the 28th graduation ceremony of Moi Teachers College Baringo, Machogu unveiled plans for President Dr. William Ruto to visit China for the formalization of this collaboration.

The agreement aims to not only enhance the facilities of these institutions but also create employment opportunities in China for Kenyan language teachers.

Machogu emphasized that beyond China, there is a growing demand for Kenyan labour in various African countries and beyond.

He urged mid-level colleges and universities to prepare learners not just for local job markets but also for international employment opportunities.

The CS highlighted the substantial financial commitment made by the government on the education sector amounting to Ksh360 billion in the current financial year alone.

He stressed the importance of obtaining a return on this substantial investment.

In line with the President’s vision, Machogu urged the formulation of specific programmes to ensure that all graduates find meaningful employment after completing their education.

He encouraged continuing learners to pursue their education to the highest level, assuring them that economic conditions will improve.

In addition to Machogu’s remarks, Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie called upon local leaders to support youth in accessing opportunities both within the country and abroad.

Kandie emphasized the importance of acquiring the necessary training and certifications, as he revealed an upcoming advertisement for over 100 jobs in his constituency’s multi-billion Kirandich Dam phase two project.

The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievement of 305 new teachers who earned upgraded Diplomas in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), Primary Teacher Education, and certificates in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
