Kisii chiefs accused of condoning child defilements

Child defilement cases in Kisii county continue to rise because of compromising Chiefs and their assistants.

While addressing the public, Kisii-based Human Rights Activists Jesicah Marwa said that the alleged child defilers commit the offenses but when reported to Chiefs they are judged in biased Kangaroo courts, given a slap on the wrist and freed.

“Unless all of us stand up to fight against this rotten practice on our children, we are not going to have any sane child in the future,” she said.

Mrs. Marwa said that most children are abused at school by either senior students or pervert teachers.

She further revealed that the victims suffer trauma for a long time and that adversely affects their education and social life.

She appealed to the judiciary to administer serious punishment to those found guilty of child defilement.

“Some of the victims are as young as six years old who suffer silently due to fear of reporting the perpetrators,” she added.

The activist appealed to the Ministry of Education to incorporate village experts in the school systems to reinforce the efforts of the community policing groups to monitor child molesters and hand them over to the police to face the law.
