Education Chief Officer in Bungoma County government has differed with Members of County Assembly (MCA) over plans by Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to distribute funds for the scholarship kitty, ECDE and Vocational Training Centers (VTCs).
This comes barely a day after Khalaba Ward MCA, Majimbo Okumu, wrote a letter to the Chief Officer, Rose Murunga and the Education County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Dr. Betty Mayeku, to appear before the assembly to face the Education Committee next week on Wednesday to shed light on how Sh60 million will cater for the scholarship, ECDE training and VTCs.
The Chief Officer said that in the last five years Wangamati’s administration has been in office, the education system in the county has changed with the building of over 15 new VTCs across the county that has given youths who failed to secure chances in University get technical knowledge.
She said that their rivals should not link Education to politics but rather support the initiative.
Ms. Murunga pointed out that with the equipping of the vocational training centers, they are able to raise money on their own, citing Wekelekha VTC as an example that produced facemasks during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She refuted claims that some Form One scholarship beneficiaries have been turned away from the schools they were called.
“I want to clear the air by saying that there is no single form one student who has been turned away during admission day. Those are propaganda that are being spread by rivals,” she said, adding that the county is still issuing cheques to the students.
She further said that Governor Wangamati’s Scholarship beneficiaries were the leading in the 2021 KCSE examinations arguing that the governor’s supporting for education is unstoppable.
