Chief calls for school feeding programme to curb absenteeism

By Lydia Ngoolo

As learners report back to school after the general elections break, some learners are in a dilemma on whether to go to school on an empty stomach or staying at home to look for food.

This has pushed Syau location Chief Michael Kitulu to call upon the government for a feeding programme in the area schools so as to retain learners.

Apart from the government, the administrator has also urged well wishers to chip in and donate foodstuff.

“Many areas of the country have been hit hard by drought and hunger due to insufficient rain and our county has not been spared. In times like these, pupils are kept in school by food,” said Kitulu.

He added if no immediate action is taken many pupils will continue skipping classes and dropping out.
