West Pokot’s Chewoyet Senior School unveils modern library, admin bloc in major infrastructure boost

Chewoyet Senior School in West Pokot County marked a historic milestone following the commissioning of a modern Library and Administration bloc in a colourful ceremony attended by senior national and county leaders, education stakeholders, parents, and members of the local community.

The event celebrated a new chapter in the school’s growth, strengthening its infrastructure and creating a learning environment conducive to academic excellence, innovation, and effective school management.

The commissioning ceremony was presided over by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Prof. Julius Bitok, who was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Public Works, Joel Arumonyang who is also the  school’s Board of Management Chairman.

Speaking during the facilities launch, PS Bitok commended the school for its achievements and noted that, while the commissioning of the library and administration block is a significant milestone, additional investment is necessary to fully meet the standards of a modern national school.

He added that Chewoyet Senior School urgently requires Ksh100 million to upgrade classrooms, hostels, and science laboratories. Bitok assured stakeholders that he would personally champion efforts to mobilize the resources necessary to realize this vision.

Chairman of the Board of Management, Joel Arumonyang also underlined the Board’s commitment to ensuring that the school continues to grow and meet national standards. Arumonyang stressed that the commissioning of these facilities reflects the institution’s long-term vision to nurture talented students capable of excelling at national and international levels.

Principal Stephen Akuto highlighted that the commissioning of the new Library and Administration Bloc represents a milestone in enhancing academic and administrative excellence. He said that the modern facilities will provide students and staff with conducive spaces for learning, research, and efficient school operations.

“The commissioning of the Library and Administration Block represents a major step in the growth and transformation of Chewoyet Senior School. The modern library will serve as the academic heartbeat of the institution, providing students with access to a wide array of books, reference materials, and research resources that complement classroom learning.” He said

Akuto added that these developments mark a turning point in the school’s journey toward becoming a model national school. He also acknowledged the crucial role played by the Board of Management in guiding the school’s strategic direction.

Students attending the ceremony expressed excitement about the new facilities, noting that the modern library and administration block would inspire them to study harder and engage more actively in learning. Teachers also welcomed the improvements, pointing out that modern infrastructure contribute to effective teaching and better student performance.

The ceremony attracted a distinguished gathering of leaders and stakeholders from both national and county governments. Among those present were the Governor of West Pokot County, Simon Kachapin, Senator Julius Murgor, former West Pokot Governor Prof. John Krop Lonyangapuo, who currently serves as Chairman of the Northern Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency, the Woman Representative for West Pokot County Rael Kasiwai, Kapenguria Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto, and Mark Lomunokol. Members of the school’s Board of Management, parents, teachers, students, and the local community also attended, while security arrangements were managed by the County Commissioner’s team.
