Centres to boost education

The Ministry of Education has been urged to identify centres of excellence amongst public primary and secondary schools to boost competition amongst students so they can excel in KCPE and KCSE exams.
Speaking at Bungoma Baptist Girls High School during the school’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Board of Management (BOM) Chairman and former Speaker of Bungoma County Assembly John Makali lauded the Government allocating Free Secondary Education programme Sh54 billion, but called for allocation of funds to improve the infrastructural development of public schools especially in the rural areas.
Makali said more science and Mathematics teachers should be posted to schools to boost the student-teacher ratio in Bungoma County. He urged the Ministry of Education to protect both the boy and girl-child education countrywide.
“The girl-child is at a higher risk of dropping out of school due to sexual harassment while the boy-child risks being introduced to alcohol and drugs.
Bungoma South Sub County TSC Director, Mrs Everline Ngesa said her office will ensure that teachers attend all classes in order to improve students’ performance.
She applauded teachers on their continued dedication to instill knowledge and skills to students as per the TPAD programme.
Her sentiments were echoed by Mr Ramadhan Machio Head of State Commendation Award winner on transformative education. Also present were school’s new principal, Mrs Mary Wendi Magara and her deputy, Mrs Felisters Nyaranga the AGM chairman of Bungoma South Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA), Mr Yusuf Masiba and Sio Secondary School, Principal Paul Mutinda amongst other others.
