CEMASTEA unveils academic journal for Mathematics, Science teachers

Teachers and practitioners in Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) education in Kenya have been invited and encouraged to support and contribute articles to Practitioner Journal of Mathematics and Science Teachers (PJMST).

The Journal which is published by the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) is meant to grow the careers of; and give opportunities to Mathematics and Science teachers in learning institutions through publishing their articles in the reputable Journal.

The Journal is a publication innovation by the Research and Development department aimed at publishing reflections from practitioners to inform effective curriculum implementation and to enhance STEM learning.

According to CEMASTEA, seven (7) peer-reviewed articles have already been published in Volume 1, Issue 1 of PJMST for the 2021/2022 Financial Year (FY) in which they addressed practical issues in the education and training sector pertinent to supporting the Social Pillar of Kenya Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 – to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

CEMASTEA has hinted plans in the pipeline to transition the publication of the PJMST to the Online Journal System (OJS) platform while application for an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is in progress.

Publication of scholarly articles in reputable academic journals play a critical role in learning institutions since they determine the standards of academic programmes and staff in a given institution; and may also play a critical role in teachers’ career growth and development.

Academic Journals contain a compilation of academic writings that are original, planned, focused, logically structured, well-sourced, unbiased, evidence based, grammatically correct and in clear formal language.

The main purpose of academic writing is to expose or provide knowledge or information that is relevant, clear and thoughtful on a subject matter of interest in a specific or multi-disciplinary field.
