The Nursing Council of Kenya has officially accredited Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Navakholo Campus in Kakamega County to offer the coveted Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) course.
The announcement was met with celebration across the region, with Navakholo Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Wangwe, leading the tributes.
Shortly after the news broke, the legislator praised the institution for what he termed “a transformative step” that will significantly expand access to professional nursing education.
“This accreditation is more than a certificate; it is a doorway to opportunity for our youth and a boost to our national healthcare capacity,” said Hon. Wangwe. “I applaud KMTC Navakholo’s leadership, staff, and students for their relentless pursuit of excellence.”
The KRCHN course is a nationally recognized program that equips students with vital skills to serve as frontline health workers, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

With this approval, KMTC Navakholo joins the ranks of elite institutions and contributes to Kenya’s vision of universal health coverage by training competent and community-focused nurses.
Health sector stakeholders have welcomed the development, saying it will create more learning opportunities and improve the availability of trained healthcare workers across western Kenya and beyond.
“This is a timely and strategic move,” said a senior official from the Nursing Council of Kenya. “The demand for qualified community health nurses is growing, and institutions like KMTC Navakholo are critical to meeting that need.”
The campus is expected to open admissions for the KRCHN program in the upcoming intake cycle.
Residents, education advocates, and community leaders have all expressed optimism that the course will help bridge the healthcare gap while uplifting livelihoods through education.
Hon. Wangwe reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education and health-related infrastructure in the constituency, noting, “This is just the beginning. We are working to position Navakholo as a hub of progress, development, and opportunity,” he added.
As the campus gears up to welcome its first cohort of KRCHN students, celebrations continue in Navakholo—where a bold new chapter in health training is just beginning.
