CDF should cater for school feeding programme, MPs say

By Brian Kaleti
Members of the Parliamentary select Committee on NG CDF have reiterated that there is need to amend the CDF act to allow financing of the feeding program in Primary schools among other issues that will improve enrolment in the lower cadre of education.
Committee Chair Musa Sirma who led the Parliamentary Committee members to Embu county to inspect projects and programs by the NG-CDF Funds noted that there was no need to invest billions in school infrastructure with no pupils attending classes due to hunger and lack of food.
He noted that Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Rúkú was among other MPs from Upper, lower and North Eastern who had petitioned the committee to amend the law.
Mbeere North Geoffrey Rúku who hosted the Committee and the NG-CDF board also applied to be allowed to use more money on bursaries due to the ravaging drought in the constituency, a request that was approved by the board.
He noted that enrolment and performance of school in Mbeere North was dismal due to hunger.
Members of the committee who visited the County vowed to support the amendment.
The NG-CDF CEO Yusuf Mbuno dismissed claims by a section of the media that the MPs had selfishly allocated more funds to the NG-CDF Kitty.
Mbuno revealed that the Kitty had been allocated an additional sh 10 billion for financial year 2023/24 to make it sh 54billion which he said was calculated as per the revenue allocation act of 2.5 Percent of the National government share.
