MP calls for partnership to boost infrastructure development in public schools

Malindi Member of Parliament, MP Amina Mnyazi has called upon different stakeholders’ partnership so as to boost the development of infrastructure in public schools to strengthen the Competency Based Curriculum in the area.

Already one of the Partners, Optiven Foundation a real estate company has completed construction of an ultramodern Science laboratory in Makobeni Secondary school in Langobaya area at a cost of Ksh. 10 million.

Speaking during the official handing over ceremony of the project Mnyazi said that there was also another partner who had committed to build two classrooms and NGCDF would also build two others at the same facility to improve the infrastructure.

“We are open to partnership especially for our learning institution and Optiven has proven to be a worth partner in complementing what the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) is doing to improve infrastructure development in our schools,” she said.

She added that with the grade nine transition to secondary schools there is an urgent need to develop more infrastructure and which NGCDF alone cannot manage in all the institutions due to financial constraints.

Mnyazi said that doors were open for donors and partner who were willing to support in infrastructural development in public institutions adding that it was one way of fulfilling her transformation agenda to her constituents.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Optiven Foundation Kenya George Wachiuru who was the Chief Guest said that they were happy to be part of the development of the school which did not have that facility.

He said that Optiven Company which is present in all the 47 counties in Kenya through its foundation normally supports communities so as to make an impact.

“As a company, we have invested in more than 30 counties and we have more than 700 students that we sponsor their education in all the 47 counties and that is not enough, we also help in equipping learning institutions so that they may get the necessary facilities to boost education of learners,” he said.

He also called on other companies in the country to ensure they invest in the communities they work in so as to make an impact and transform lives.

Kilifi County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Felkin Kaingu who was present said that the county government would ensure there are bursary allocations for students in all wards.

“Every learner is currently required to gain computer skills and as a County government we will distribute computers and tablets to all primary and secondary schools and also in our ECDEs,” said Kaingu.
