Stakeholders in the education sector have been called upon to adhere to various virtues of sponsor churches managing their respective schools.

This is for the smooth running of the institution and for the betterment of the learners, it has been stated.

The calls were made by the Lwanda Parish Shihome Catholic church Fr Alex Ekodere while presiding over the St Patrick’s Bukhakunga Secondary school in West Kabras in Kakamega North Sub-county when they held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the recent past.

Fr. Alex while delivering his summon speech to the parents learners and other invited guests, maintained that the school was set up on a staunch Catholic faith through the efforts of the late Fr Gerald Van De Leer who pushed for the establishment of the institution that has since been of great importance to the community around.

The parish priest at the same time condemned a section of parents who have been politicizing the sponsorship virtues and urged them to desist as they found the school under its leadership when they opted to enroll their learners at the institution for education purposes.

“We as the Catholic Church do not force any learner to join our faith but as an institution we have given them a total of 52 values and virtues to guide the learners and the running of the institution respectively.”

He said already the church was putting in place measures to see the school expand to accommodate as many learners as possible and it could only be achieved through mutual cooperation between the stakeholders

The newly deployed school Principal Bernard Mang’oli hailed the sponsor for its efforts in upgrading the school to its current stature besides instilling high morals of discipline through spiritual nourishment.

Our sponsor church has played a vital role instilling good morale values in our students that has seen also teen pregnancies and boy child relationship at school reduce drastically and we take seriously our partnership with them and its upon our parents to decide whether to let their children school here or opt out if they are not comfortable with our virtues since we cannot bend these virtues to fit one or two parents’ needs.

He said the school has managed to offset all its pending bills following his introduction of digital fee payment that enable parents to remit fees and other school levies through mobile money transfer at their comfort without coming to school.

“We are happy that with our new digital fee payment parents have been able to send as little as one hundred shillings to the school and this has seen as totally settle our suppliers debts which were running at KSh400,000 and as at now we are debt free with our accounts having over 200,000 as balance.

Commenting on the performance of the school, he said with the soon to be implemented strategic plan the school has set its standards and targets to bolster performance.

We are targeting a mean of 7.6 this year with 50 candidates from the initial 30 going to university directly our performance in the last years have been appealing and has impacted positively to our admission where the school has over a thousand students currently and our aim to do even better this year will definitely increase our enrolment.”
