Catholic Church tapped to provide spiritual guidance to schools in Eldoret

The Catholic Diocese of Eldoret is set to provide chaplaincy services to cater for the pastoral needs of learners in three basic education institutions.

The Chaplain, to be based at St. Georges Secondary School, will cater for learners at the school, St. Joseph Secondary school and St. James Primary school in Kapseret sub-county in Uasin Gishu County.

The local catholic community, led by the Vicar General of the Diocese Father William Kosgei, met at St. Georges over the weekend to raise funds for construction of the Chaplain’s residency.

Speaking during the occasion, Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Belio Kipsang said the government greatly recognizes the critical role of chaplaincy in providing pastoral care to students by promoting positive well-being and preventing negative factors that may derail their lives.

State Department of Internal Security and National Administration PS Dr. Raymond Omollo thanked the Church for investing in the chaplaincy, saying that Priests help students to maneouvre teenage challenges.

He asked local administrators to crack down on illicit brew and drug abuse within their respective jurisdictions to protect the students.

Omollo noted that the Chaplains not only support students by providing pastoral care but also the well-being of the broader school community, in addition to provision of general spiritual and personal advice.
