Kisii Catholic Bishop Okemwa Mairura has urged teachers to integrate faith with learning to inspire students and produce whole round citizens.
Addressing the congregation, the cleric also encouraged learners to cultivate reverence for God, emphasizing that He is the source of wisdom.
The Bishop made the appeal during the reopening of Nyamokenye parish in Bonchari Constituency, urging students to acknowledge God’s role in granting understanding of complex subjects like physics and mathematics.
“God is the one who gives wisdom and understanding,” Bishop Mairura said, citing the example of renowned physicist Isaac Newton, who succeeded in scientific research by grounding himself in biblical readings and praising God through church hymns. “Let us emulate Newton and recognize God’s hand in our academic pursuits,” he added.
The Bishop through his address stressed that wisdom begins with fearing God, and teachers play a pivotal role in guiding learners to appreciate this. He called on educators to instill in students the values of humility and reliance on God, especially when tackling challenging subjects.
