A leading teaching expert was laid to rest at her Kiatine Village home in Kalia Sub-location, Kitui County recently.
Mrs. Ruth Mutile Malusi died on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi from heart complications aged 84.
Hundreds of mourners came to pay their last respects to the heroine who is survived by her husband Gideon M. Malusi, six sons, two daughters, 27 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. .
Ruth was born in 1938 in Mbusyani Village, Kyangwithya Location in Kitui District.
She attended the Ithookwe Primary School in Kitui District in 1948 to 1952 when she joined the Machakos Girls High School in Machakos District until 1955.
Afterwards she joined the Kangundo Teachers Training College in Machakos District until 1957 when she graduated as a P3 teacher.
In 1959 she graduated from the Machakos Teachers Training College.
She studied privately and eventually attained the senior teacher certificate (SI) and began her teaching career that spanned over 36 years.
In May 1988 she founded the Kalimani Secondary School in Kitui District and she was the school’s first principal.
Upon her retirement from the teaching in 1993, she was appointed to various positions: as a returning officer for the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) where she served until 1997, as a board member for various schools, as a Kitui District Land Board member, as a councilor at the Kitui County Council and also as a Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kitui Branch Women’s Representative.
As community mobiliser and a table top banking leader, she started many women groups.
The mourners were addressed by the retired Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Benjamin Mwanzia Nzimbi, KNUT Kitui County Executive Secretary Simon Mutunga Nding’o and a Kitui County senatorial aspirant Engineer Benjamin Muithya Mutambuki among others.
