Butere Boys announced their arrival in style at this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games after stunning Highway Boys 4–0 in a group B football clash at Kakamega High School.
The Western giants, under the guidance of head coach Habil Malika assisted by Moses Shalo, put on a dominant performance that left Beliden Odemba’s charges chasing shadows. Dennis Kikwea bagged a brace, while Dennis Shikhule and Isaac Ferdinand each added a goal to seal the emphatic win.
Elsewhere, St Joseph’s Boys Kitale picked up back-to-back victories, overcoming APE Ragunga (Rw) 2–0 before hammering Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa 5–1 in their third match. Musingu Boys were, however, held to a barren draw by Buddo (Ug) at Bukhungu Stadium, while Agai Boys crushed Benjamin Mkapa 3–0. Agai Mixed also continued their fine run with a 2–0 triumph over St Mary’s Kitende (Ug) at Kakamega High.
In hockey, Kenyan sides asserted their dominance. Defending champions Musingu Boys thrashed Mbarara (Ug) 4–1 at Mukumu Seminary, while former winners St Anthony’s Boys saw off Ntare (Ug) 2–0.

Girls’ hockey defending champions Tigoi (Ke) opened their campaign in ruthless fashion, demolishing Namagunga (Ug) 13–0 at Mukumu Boys grounds. Ng’iya Girls (Ke) edged Kakungulu (Ug) 1–0, and St Joseph’s Girls Joga (Ke) crushed Mwiki (Ke) 3–0 after having thumped Mshanga (Tz) 11–0 in their opening fixture.
In other disciplines, St Joseph’s Girls Joga from Kenya experienced mixed fortunes. They lost 48–30 to Buddo (Ug) in netball at MMUST Kakamega but impressed in basketball, defeating Lutozo (Tz) 54–27 and overpowering Kibuli (Ug) 54–34. They also cruised to victories in lacrosse, beating Reuben 23–3, and in handball with a 23–13 win.
With Kenyan schools off to a strong start across multiple disciplines, expectations are rising that they could dominate this year’s FEASSSA championships on home soil.
