Business Community in Malindi warned against hiring school children

The Business Community in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County has been warned against employing school children, which has interfered with the education of many of them in the area.

Speaking to Education News in Malindi town recently, Shella Sub-Location Senior Assistant Chief, Mr. Nicodemus Mwayele Ndundi urged the Business Community to strictly adhere to the warning by the Directorate of Children Department not to employ young children who are still in school.

“Do not employ school children as hawkers and house servants”, the chief warned

The administrator disclosed that those employers who flout the directive will be arrested and charged.

He further cautioned parents in the area to stop engaging their children in child Labour at a tender age.

“Any parent found to have engaged his or her child to Labour will be arrested”, Warned the  Administrator.

He asked parents to cooperate fully with leaders in order to stop child Labour in the area.

Mr. Mwayele, also reminded parents them of their responsibility to offer education to their children, arguing that the Country’s rapid development depended on the education of the youth.
