Busia KCSE candidate gives birth in school dormitory

A Form Four student from St Triza Mundere Girls secondary school in Bunyala, Busia County has given birth in the school dormitory during KCSE examination.

The Bunyala Sub County Director of Education, George Owuoche confirmed the incident during a press briefing on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

“The incident occurred on Monday night, with the student successfully giving birth in the dormitory,” Owuoche stated.

He further told the Education News that the candidate, whose identity is being withheld, was swiftly taken to a nearby health facility after childbirth.

She received a tetanus injection and promptly returned to school to resume her exams.

The Sub County Director noted this as the first such incident since the start of the KCSE exams on November 6, 2023.

Additionally, he mentioned that 11 public secondary schools had been designated as exam centers, and that the KCSE exam is progressing smoothly with effective measures in place for a successful conclusion.
