The education fraternity in Busia County has been plunged into deep mourning following the death of Mwalimu Nickson Boyi, the long-serving Principal of Odiado Secondary School and immediate former Chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) in the county.

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma led leaders and education stakeholders in paying tribute to the veteran school administrator, describing his passing as a significant loss to the county’s academic leadership.

In his condolence message, Governor Otuoma said he was “deeply grieved by the passing of Mwalimu Boyi, a dedicated educator, long-serving Principal, and the immediate former Chairman of KESSHA in Busia County.”

The Governor reflected on his long association with the late principal, noting that their relationship dates back to his tenure as Member of Parliament for Funyula.
“We often consulted both professionally on matters of education and development, and personally as friends,” he said. “He was a man of integrity, honest, forthright, reliable, and deeply committed to public service.”

Mwalimu Boyi, celebrated across the county for his leadership and commitment to academic excellence, is remembered for steering Odiado Secondary School to stability and championing education reforms through KESSHA. Colleagues credit him with fostering unity and elevating professional standards among school heads.

According to Governor Otuoma, the trust Boyi earned from his peers was a reflection of his character and service.
“It was no surprise that his colleagues entrusted him with leadership as head of secondary school principals in the county,” he noted.

Tributes continued to pour in from teachers, former students, and administrators who described him as a mentor, visionary leader, and a firm believer in education as a tool for community transformation.

The Governor extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, saying, “My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Pamela, his children, and the entire family. May you find strength in the cherished memories you shared and be comforted during this difficult time.”
