A 20-year-old girl living with disability in Busia County has made a heartfelt appeal to leaders and well-wishers to help her get a wheelchair and college support to continue her education.
Faith Nekesa, from Kidek Village in Amagoro Location, Teso North Sub-County, is seeking urgent assistance to acquire a new wheelchair and other essential college needs as she prepares to join college.
Faith, who sat her KCSE in 2025 at Nalondo Special School, scored a commendable C+, a performance that has qualified her to pursue further studies in special training. However, her dreams now hang in the balance due to financial constraints and lack of mobility support.
Speaking to the press on Monday , Faith said her current wheelchair is worn out and cannot sustain her movement, making it difficult for her to attend classes or live independently once admitted to college.
She has made a direct appeal to Malaba Central Ward MCA, Ronald Ochalu, alongside other county and national leaders, to intervene and help her secure: a suitable wheelchair, college fees support, and basic learning and living necessities.
Residents and disability rights advocates in the area say Faith’s situation reflects the broader challenges faced by learners living with disabilities, especially those from humble backgrounds.

“This is a bright girl who has beaten all odds. With support, she can become an inspiration to many others living with disability,” said a local community leader.
Well-wishers and leaders have been urged to act swiftly to ensure Faith does not miss the upcoming college intake, with many calling for structured support for learners with special needs in the county.
” I desperately need support to pursue my college studies at Sikri Technical and Vocational College for the Blind and Deaf, which is located in Oyugis Town, Homa Bay County, 6km from, Oyugis town along the Kisumu-Oyugis- Kisii Highway,” she said.
Faith added:” I can do without a caretaker if I get the desirable wheelchair I am currently using with the exception of hilly areas – where I may need help of assisting me to carry water and nothing else.
