Busia County Government has launched a countywide construction program targeting over 275 new ECDE (Early Childhood Development Education) classrooms.

The flagship initiative, which seeks to decongest overcrowded learning spaces, was officially unveiled at Maolo Primary School in Nambale Sub-county and presided over by Deputy Governor Arthur Odera, who represented Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma.

Speaking at the launch, Odera hailed the program as a game-changer for the county’s education sector.

“This ambitious undertaking is a clear demonstration of our administration’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for our youngest learners. It will significantly ease pressure on existing infrastructure caused by rising enrolment.” He said.

Each of the county’s 35 wards is set to benefit equally from the initiative, ensuring equitable distribution and impact across the region. The simultaneous rollout of the classrooms is expected to inject momentum into the county’s broader education reform agenda.

The project comes amid growing concerns over classroom congestion, with stakeholders lauding the government for prioritizing early education infrastructure. Construction is slated to commence immediately, with county officials vowing to ensure transparency, quality, and timely delivery.
