The County Government of Busia has unveiled an ambitious plan to construct 175 models of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres within the next three months.
The initiative follows the approval of a supplementary budget to enhance early childhood education infrastructure across the county.
A cabinet memo presented yesterday by the Department of Education and Industrial Skills Development outlines that each county’s 35 wards will receive at least five new classrooms.
The project will be implemented under the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), a strategy designed to accelerate development and provide immediate impact.

The move is expected to address the shortage of ECDE classrooms, improve learning conditions, and provide a strong educational foundation for young children.
With the three-month timeline, local leaders and oversight bodies will monitor the construction process to ensure transparency and adherence to high standards.
The government has assured the public that the new ECDE centres will meet all requirements to create a conducive learning environment for young learners.
As the project progresses, Busia County prioritises early childhood education as a key driver of academic success and long-term community development.
