The County Government of UasinGishu has scaled down bursary allocations to redirect funds to other crucial projects that will equally benefit the public.
Govenor Jackson Mandago said the money has been reduced following the national governments roll-out of free secondary school education therefore no need to allocate more money.
“The money spared from bursaries will fund the youth internship program and sponsorship to technical institutes,” Governor Mandago spoke as he gave out a title deed for Kapchumba Secondary and Primary Schools expansion recently.
The 30 wards across UasinGishu County have been getting increasing allocations every year, with last Financial Year having stood at Sh4.5 million per ward.
Besides strengthening the sponsorship to TTIs, Mandago says the County will start the youth internship program, with at least 60 graduates being absorbed for a six-month internship. In the program, Degree holders will get Sh15, 000 stipends as Diploma graduates take home Sh12,000 as monthly pay.
